Abrams Yard NS Harrisburg Line Upper Merion PA October 23 2005

While waiting for Q190 to make its moves, the power and caboose for NS local H3A, which runs from Abrams Yard to the Morrisville Line and then west on the Dale Secondary and Amtrak Keystone Corridor on its way to Mittal Steel (formerly Lukens Steel) in Coatesville, pulled out of the storage yard. Leading the train out was a CW40-8, the former LMS 721, now NS 8461.
The second unit was C44-9W NS 9581.
Local H3A is known as one of the few trains that still merits a caboose, due to a long reverse move from CP Norris to CP King. Conrail N21 caboose 21201 in CR Quality paint has had this honor for many years, and the scars to show for it. After picking up the cars out of Abrams Yard, the caboose would eventually wind up on the south/east end of the train to lead through SEPTA territory, and NS 9581 would lead west on the Dale Secondary.
