Vice President Marc Laborde called the meeting to order at 8:05 p.m.

Directors approved a motion outlining the procedures for the contested Board of Directors positions in the 2004 election.

Jay Creswell reported that the rent dispute with the storage locker appears to be resolved.

Jay announced that the chapter banquet will be held at the Church of the Holy Comforter in Vienna April 2.

Directors approved Elver Ariza of Crownsville as a new member of the chapter, contingent on getting his signature on the application. The membership was given as a gift.

The board authorized Bob Cohen to offer the china cabinet in the storage locker to the B&O museum.

Directors discussed publishing a membership roster. Bill Holdsworth and Bob Cohen will bring the information they have to the January meeting.

The board discussed the grants program. Candidates mentioned were the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad Preservation Society, the Lackawanna and Wyoming Valley chapter for restoration of Boston and Maine locomotive 3713, and the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum.

The meeting adjourned at 9:25 p.m.


October 20, 2004 (Special)

Directors agreed to switch to a month-to-month status on rental of the storage locker and begin looking for a new facility. The management of the current facility has reneged on an agreement concerning the rent for Septeber 2002, when the chapter switched to a smaller locker. Mangement has been unresponsive to Jay Creswell's efforts to resolve the situation.

Directors agreed to cancel the November board meeting, because at least two directors will be out of town.

Jerry Hott reported that he has reserved Gaithersburg City Hall park for the chapter picnic on the last Saturday in August.

Directors discussed the annual banquet.


September 8, 2004

Lacking a quorum, no official business was conducted.

Bill Holdsworth distributed the previous meeting's minutes.

Marc Laborde raised the possibility of showing the chapter film, Phantom Express, at the Weinberg Theatre in Frederick as a fund-raising event.

Jay Creswell discussed scheduling a fly/ride trip to the Georgia/Tennessee/North Carolina area. The trip could include rides on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway and the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. The Chattanooga Choo-Choo is another attraction in the area.

One westbound train passed during the meeting.

Gordy Bjoraker called the meeting to order at 8:15 p.m.

Bill Holdsworth distributed the previous meeting's minutes.

Jay Creswell distributed the treasurer's report. Jay also pointed out that next year is the 35th anniversary of the chapter.

Directors agreed to Clay Moritz's suggestion that a postcard mailing replace the July newsletter.

Directors approved a motion to designate Clay Moritz as the alternate to represent the chapter at the national directors' meeting at the convention. Jerry Hott will not be attending. Bill Holdsworth should draft a letter to the national organization's secretary authorizing Clay to represent the chapter.

At 9:15, the meeting adjourned until September. There will be no June, July, and August meeting, unless the president deems it necessary to call one.

Bill Holdsworth distributed the previous meeting's minutes.

Jay Creswell gave the treasurer's report.

Directors approved a motion to have a contest for a chapter logo. Members could submit entries. The deadline for entries would be June 30. The board reserves the right to reject submission. The membership would vote on the winner at the July meeting. Wayne Sherwin will be asked to coordinate the contest.

Directors approved a motion to reinstate Melvyn Sacks as a member of the chapter.

Directors approved a motion to recommend to the membership that the chapter authorize up to $1,200 to match donations made by chapter members to refurbish the seats on the former Long Island Rail Road coach owned by the Chesapeake Railway Association. CRA recently acquired the vintage 1926 P54D coach, which operates via a lease agreement with the Walkersville Southern Railroad. CRA has been quoted a cost of $2,460 for the refurbishment. The chapter's donation would be acknowledged by a plaque inside the coach.

Jerry Hott reported on the national directors' meeting. Arrangements for the Minneapolis convention have been damaged by Union Pacific's decision not to participate. The future of the conventions after the 2005 Portland event is unclear.

Directors discussed procedures for allowing others to make copies of slides in the chapter's Flack collection.

Two eastbound and two westbound trains passed during the meeting.

Gordy Bjoraker called the meeting to order at 8:08 p.m.

Bill Holdsworth summarized the previous meeting's minutes.

Directors passed a motion to approve Bill Holdsworth's draft grant agreement with Montgomery Preservation, Inc. and authorize the President to sign the agreement. The agreement concerns the chapter's $3,000 donation towards completion of the documentary on the Silver Spring station. In the discussion, directors agreed that the chapter should be willing to accept a DVD copy of the completed program in lieu of the VHS copies specified in the agreement.

Directors approved Matt Swayhoover and Meg Porta of Reston, VA, as new members of the chapter.

Bill Hopkins gave a status report on the banquet.

Directors approved a motion to authorize travel expenses for the banquet speaker, Tom Davis, and to authorize an amount not to exceed $50 for the purchase of a book as a gift for the speaker.

Richard Edwards raised a potential fund-raising idea -- sponsoring a blue grass music festival which also featured a simultaneous railroad-related slide show.

Directors discussed the possibility of emailing the newsletter to save postage.
