Besides providing a crossing loop between Melaleuca and Lilyvale, Maple Jn provides a number of options on how to operate the line.

In it's simplest form, the line continues through Maple Jn to Lilyvale and around the yard to Sandstone (the 'long' way), shown green then red.

But it is possible go directly to Sandstone (the 'short' way') via the purple crossover and blue track.
The blue track allows round-the-yard running, through the colliery.
The yellow track allows a return to Maple Jn from Lilyvale.
When operating on my own, I usually just use the yellow reverse loop line.
With 2 or 3 operators, we also use the shortcut to Sandstone (purple and blue lines).

This may help to simplify - we can either take the dotted purple line to Sandstone or take the red line to Lilyvale, then the green to Oleander and the blue to Sandstone.
