November 9, 2024:

I got up and got dressed. I went downstairs for breakfast. I went online for a little while and worked on this report for a few minutes. I finished packing and went to check out.

I took the shuttle to O’Hare. I then got out and walked to check in.

I would be flying home on Air Canada. However both Air Canada and United Airlines are part of the same code sharing group. After checking in and dropping off my suitcase I cleared security with little problems. I then found my gate.

I saw that Air Canada had given me an aisle seat. However I found an Air Canada information desk near my gate and was able to get my seat changed to a window for no additional cost. I logged into the airport’s Wi-Fi and went online. I also photographed a few United Airlines planes.

I ended up buying lunch in the terminal I went back to my gate. My plane arrived. As when I flew into O’Hare back in July, I would be flying on an Airbus A220. I photographed the plane when it arrived.

After several minutes it was time to board. I got on and sat down in my window seat. I saw that I didn’t have someone sitting in my group of seats. The plane left a couple minutes early. As we taxied out to the runway I took some photos.

No, I did not include the same shot twice here.

I filmed the plane’s takeoff roll. I tuned into Air Canada’s on board entertainment service.

The time flew past (no pun intended) and we were getting close to Toronto. I photographed Pearson Airport from the plane.

From the plane we circled around TTC’s Wilson subway yard. I photographed it from the plane.

I photographed the Toronto skyline from the plane.

As we landed, I filmed the landing. As we taxied to our gate, I took some photos.

We were parked at the gate. I got off the plane and took one more photo of the plane.

I then photographed one more Air Canada jet.

I then cleared Canadian customs with no problems. I then got my suitcase and headed out.

I would be taking transit home. By the time I got there I just missed the GO bus I intended to take. The next bus would be in 20 minutes. I phoned home and let my dad know I was back in Toronto.

The bus came and I got on. I rode to the Richmond Hill Center terminal. I photographed the bus after I tapped my Presto card for YRT/VIVA.

I then waited for a VIVA bus. The bus came a few minutes later and I rode one VIVA stop and got off. I then walked home.

Conclusions:

Aside from the wait to get a shuttle to my hotel and not being able to meet up with Karl, this was a good trip. All my connections worked out and my first flight with United Airlines wasn’t bad.

I have heard that the new Floridian will only be temporary while Amtrak repairs the Hudson River tunnels into and out of New York City. If this is the case and the Capitol Limited and Silver Star return I might ride the Floridian in the future. On November 10, 2024 the last Capitol Limited trains departed Chicago and Washington DC.

As for me I’m not expecting any more train trips this year. I may go to the Detroit area for U.S. Thanksgiving as I have extended family there. I may even meet up with Karl and/or visit the Henry Ford Museum again. However there will most likely not be a report from that trip. Until next time…
