Several of the ACIS woodchip cars were converted and assigned to dedicated service transporting lumber from Dubreil Forest Products' mill in Dubreilville to Steelton for transloading onto trucks for US export. The following cars can be identified as being thus modified: 1413, 1415, 1416, 1417, 1433. Steelton 2000 Chris vanderHeide
ACIS 1415 Woodchip Car - The same car as above, the end door has been re-installed and this car now works in woodchip service again, but away from its original home rails. This is one of only two or three such cars left on the roster. Most of the AC and ACIS woodchip gondolas were sold in 1985 when the Newaygo mill at Mead closed. Hopper - These photos show some of the Algoma Central's distictive 8000-series round ore cars. These cars were built in 1970 by National Steel Car in Hamilton, Ontario. When the mines and sinter plant around Wawa were abandoned in 1997, these cars were rebuilt by WC as ballast cars and now see service over the entire WC system. Diesel Hoist - The ACR owned an example of a rare Canadian crane. Dominion Engineering Works of Lachine, Quebec was Canada's crane and shovel manufacturer. The company, originally known as Dominion Hoist and Shovel, later the Power Crane and Shovel Division of Dominion Engineering, produced a full line of crawler, truck mounted and rail mounted cranes and shovels. Dominion shovel-cranes were popular with Canada's railways.

Beginning in 1945 Dominion offered a small rail mounted machine intended to compete with the Burro crane. It was called the "Dominion Bantam Rail Crane". Ten were sold and one, serial BC-108B went to the ACR in 1954.

It had a long life, lasting at least into the mid-1970's.

Covered steel service gondolas. In 1998 Algoma Steel opened a new coil production facility and began shipping large amounts of sheet steel over the CP. HCRY 911/912 are often composed largely of coil steel cars. A lot of this traffic heads to a steel distributor in Hamilton. The cars here are all shown either at Aberdeen yard in Hamilton or in the "Steel Train" from Sudbury to Hamilton. The CP 346xxx cars were purchased from Thrall Car in 1998. Around 2001 Wisconsin Central began shipping ore to Algoma Steel from a mine in Upper Michigan. Here's a collection of hoppers currently used for this service. I also found a pair of old AC 8600 series hoppers mixed in with these, but except for those two cars, all the hoppers I saw were GCCX, GIEX, SSAM and WC. SSAM and WC marked cars are of course owned by Wisconsin Central. The GCCX and GIEX cars are leased from GATX Inc. Sault Ste. Marie 2004 Chris vanderHeide

Gondola, covered - these two gondolas equipped with fiberglass covers were heading at Cochrane on the Ontario Northland heading west towards Hearst with loads of copper concentrate from Kidd Creek Mine near Timmins. This same pair of cars was photographed by another railfan less than two weeks later heading out of the smelter at Trail, BC. These cars would have routed over the former ACR from Hearst to Oba on the way to British Columbia. Cochrane, ON 2013 Chris vanderHeide/td>
