| Wye
Project in Manassas on hold. |
| Jan 01,
2002- Norfolk Southern engineering crews from
Atlanta, Ga. were in Manassas, Va. in January
2001 starting the prelimanary surveys for the
much anticpated relocation on the Manassas wye.
As 2002 neared, the city of Manassas and Norfolk
Southern are in a locking of horns in the much
needed and anticipated project. Sources say there
has been a monitary dispute between the city and
the railroad as to will carry the majority of the
financial burden.. |

Tower in Alexandria, Va. nears completion by CSX. |
| Jan 01,
2002- In the year 2001, Norfolk Southern and CSX
teamed up on a revamping of the old AF tower
interlocking in Alexandria, Va. The improved
crossovers which are near completion will handle
more frieght capacity and allow NS Mainline bound
VRE and Amtrak passenger trains to move without
delay on and off of Norfolk Southern tracks as
well as provide a staging area for VRE and Amtrak
traffic on CSX itself. The newly reopend mainline
that was once the NS north passenger track is
once again a mainline and features TC authority
as the primary mode of operation. New signals are
in place as well.. |

You have
spoken. On the question
of merging our ranks with
those of the UTU, by a
vote of 17,251 to 7,425,
you have clearly,
overwhelmingly, stated
your preference. By as
lopsided a margin as one
could imagine, you have
said, "no. |
