Train 97 dropped off
Engine 138 a few days after the wreck to be the power for the train, a
Conductor and Engineer were dispatched from Sanford, I know both of them
and was there when they brought the train into Sanford. I was also in
Sanford as a second Hospital train took some of the damaged cars (199,
1726, 62011, 62013, 8519) to Beech Grove for further repair. Engine 66
led the move, 60' Express Boxcars were added to provide braking power as
the 199 and 62013 had no brakes.

Train 97 left this engine for
the hospital train to lead it into Sanford from Georgia, the
engine has reportedly been shipped to New Orleans, where it will
be returend to Intercity East, several weeks later it was involved
in a grade crossing incident near Hamlet, NC and returned to
Sanford this time for repair |

The last engine that Wayne
would run, as you can see quite a bit of damage was done to it, a
brake hose had to be run around it, as the main reservoir was
cracked, the engine had its traction motors removed and snow plow
cut off before it was sent to Beech Grove |
