As
part of an experiment the 84 and 115 were painted into a special
Toyota Tundra paint scheme, the experiment was only supposed to
last a couple of months, but luckily for me they remained in it a
little bit longer, this was the only time I caught a glimpse of
the 84, so I took advantage of the situation as you can tell.
The 84 primarily
worked Silver Service during the experiment, but also appeared on
the Capitol Ltd, Texas Eagle, City of New Orleans, Sunset Ltd,
Southwest Chief, and a few others.
The 115 primarily
was found over on the Texas Eagle, but floated a little bit like
the 84, the choice of the 115 was usual since it's part of the
Amtrak West Fleet that works the Coast Starlight, Surfliners
798/799, and pinch hits on Amtrak California Captiols and San
Jaoquin Service.
Surprisingly it
looks as though the Tundra on either side was hand painted, not a
wrap as many expected. The paint didn't stand up too well to the
acid in Amtrak's car was, as you can see on the Engineers side of
the train.
Both Engines were
eventually repainted at Redondo in Los Angeles, the 115 was
restored to Phase Vb and put back in the Amtrak West pool, the 84
was repainted into Phase Vb from its original Va |
