ex-Norfolk Southern purchased in 2002 (former 4600-4605) |

Two of the 6 ex-Norfolk
Southern GP-49's that Tri-Rail bought the engines were built as
prototypes, but never went to production. Tri-Rail bought the 6 engines to help cover the new busy schedule they plan to put into
place once the Double Track process is comepleted. Boise
Locomotive will likely rebuild all six engines to get them in
running condiction. Modifications to be made include cutting down
the high hood, lengthening the body by two feet so that HEP can be
installed, as well as a rebuild to get them at maximum efficency.
The engines were sitting on Track 3 of Miami's Amtrak station,
Train 91 the SB Silver Star can be seen on the right of the photo
