Amtrak's Acela Express Power Car Roster Photos
GENERAL: The Acela Express is the fastest train on the Northeast Corridor. On certain sections of the Corridor, this train can reach speeds of up to 150mph thanks to tilting mechanisms built into the trucks. These trains are marketed by Amtrak as being the fastest way to get where you're going which makes them very attractive to time-conscious business travelers.
SPECS: 2 Power Cars are used each train, on each end, eliminating the need to wye the train to turn it around. These cars were built in 2000-2001 by a consortium headed by Bombardier and Alstom. All cars feature Amtrak's "Acela" paint scheme.
TERRITORY: All Acela Express trains operate on the Northeast Corridor only between Boston and Washington.
NOTES: Nearly all of the power cars have had their roof shrouds replaced since Amtrak took delivery. Several other modifications have been made as well. These power cars run trains with limited stops along the Corridor.
