Amtrak's EMD F59PHI Roster Photos


GENERAL:These units operate on Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner Route between Los Angeles & San Diego. An additional set of these units operates in the Pacific Northwest under the Amtrak Cascades banner.
SPECS:These units feature DC Traction Motors and operate in Push-Pull Mode with a Cab Control Car on the other end. On the Cascades trains, a former F40 NPCU is the Cab Control Car.
TERRITORY:Anywhere on the Pacific Surfliner Route. (Formerly the San Diegans) These units are maintained and based in Los Angeles. On rare occasion, one may end up on the Coast Starlight as well. The Cascades Units are normally seen in on the Cascades Route between Seattle, Washington and Eugene, Oregon.
NOTES:Amtrak has 21 of these units. #450-465 are painted up for the Pacific Surfliner Route. #466-470 are used on the Amtrak Cascades Route in the Pacific Northwest and are painted in a green and white paint scheme.
