Photos Taken At Attridge Road - North Chili, NY

This would be my first of an eventual 3 trips to Rochester for 2012. I started today's trip with a stop at Buffalo-Depew Amtrak to see Train #48 - The Lake Shore Limited before heading over to the New York State Thruway to visit the Rochester area. Once Train #48 left, I had a quick breakfast at Burger King, then drove to the Rochester suburb of North Chili to get in some railfanning on Attridge Road which features a good wide open area that allows you to safely park your car off railroad property. The crossing is located just west of CP-382 on the CSX Rochester Sub (Former Conrail/New York Central Chicago Line). CP-382 is the connection to the West Shore Sub that runs around the south side of Rochester and rejoins the mainline in Fairport, NY at CP-359. The West Shore Branch was originally part of a long-since defunct railroad known as the New York, West Shore & Buffalo which was started by the Pennsylvania Railroad to compete with the New York Central and was built on the south side of the Erie Canal. Included here are photos taken while visiting this busy part of the Water Level Route! Enjoy...

LEFT: Arriving at Buffalo-Depew Station is Amtrak Train #48 with P42DC #77 on the head end. RIGHT: I like to caption a photo like this
by saying "Amtrak, may all your signals be green!" Those former New York Central signals are quickly being replaced by CSX as a part
of the railroad's preparations to bring PTC (Positive Train Control) to this line.

This morning's Lake Shore Limited had a rather unique car in the consist. This is the one and only (at least for now) Viewliner
Diner #8400! This car was built by Amtrak's Beech Grove mechanical forces back in the late 1980's and sat in storage for
several years. The car was stripped down to a shell and rebuilt using American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (Economic
Stimulus) money in 2011 and serves as the test bed for a new order of 25 dining cars that will eventually replace Amtrak's
Heritage Diners on eastern long-distance trains. This car is a dedicated car on the Lake Shore Limited (so you won't likely
see it on any other train) and now bears the name "Indianapolis".

And now we're in North Chili at Attridge Road with the first train of the day being CSX Train Q-018 with
GE ES44DC #5202 leading an eastbound intermodal train.

Next up is CSX Train Q-158 with GE C40-8 #7554 leading this eastbound intermodal.

Now we have CSX Train Q-281 with GE AC4400CW #73 on the head end. It almost looks like an old Alco with all that smoke!
This train had a westbound symbol but was travelling eastbound.

Next up is this westbound intermodal with ES44DC #5449 leading.

Looking east at the mainline from the Attridge Road crossing. The line that veers to the right of this photo is the West Shore line.
The train hiding on the siding to the left of the photo is CSX Train Q-287 waiting for a signal to head west. And now let's head to
Downtown Rochester for a brief stop at the Rochester Amtrak station.
