Silver Rails Country 2012: The Walt Disney Hometown Museum - Marceline, MO
On October 17th, I stopped by the Walt Disney Hometown Museum which is built inside the original 1913-built Santa Fe passenger station in Marceline, MO. This station was at one time a stop on Amtrak's Southwest Chief but today serves as a museum dedicated to Mr. Walt Disney as Marceline is his boyhood home. The museum charges a nominal $5.00 for admission and features lots of artifacts and historical displays about the life of the man who created Disneyland and Mickey Mouse! The museum staff is eager to answer your questions when you visit. This photo essay will cover more of the railroad connection to this museum however there are lots of great historical displays that if you are a big time Disney fan, you should consider visiting this museum to get a real idea of how the Disney empire got started!!!

A streetside view of the station building. I'm sure when the Super Chief came through Marceline, there were no SUV's!!!

The front entrance of the station and museum on Santa Fe Avenue in Downtown Marceline.

Looking west towards Kansas City, this is what's left of the passenger platform. Amtrak stopped service here
in the 1990's and today the platform is fenced off from the mainline.

A couple Railway Express Agency baggage carts located outside the museum.

A wide-angle view of the platform and proof this was at one time, an Amtrak Station!

"All Aboard Mickey" is on display inside the museum! The first voice of Mickey was Walt Disney himself!

Baggage waiting for the next train!

An eastbound BNSF manifest flies through Marceline with GE C44-9W #4429 leading 2 CSX units!
This photo was taken on the upstairs level of the station.

An eastbound BNSF autorack train passes through Marceline with GE ES44AC #5801 on the head end.

Interesting weather looking east of Marceline!!!

After spending some time in Marceline, I drove back to La Plata and spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing at the Depot Inn because unfortunately, I managed to get a nasty cold that day, bummer!!! Next up, take a tour of a wonderful photo gallery and library in the heart of Silver Rails Country! Check out the link below!!!
