Certification allowed to expire in 1972 and stored out of service at Frankfort. Officially retired June 13, 1974. Sold to Marine Salvage limited of Port Colbourne, Ontario Canada. Load with scrap metal and towed to Spain to be scrapped).

Vessel Remarks:

  1. Traverse bulkheads divided the hull into eight watertight compartments beneath the main decks. Wing tanks, with a capacity of 60 tons each for trimming. Two fresh water tanks, 3000 gallons each, one sewage tank, 2000 gallons.

  2. Car decks were designed but never used.

  3. Stateroom capacity 40 passenger, deck capacity 360 passengers, steam heat, electric lights. Galley, cold storage room and a one ton ice machine.

  4. Auth Docket #225 4-25-1936 to install emergency generating and lighting set , money advanced to Ann Arbor Boat Company.

  5. Authorized to install fire detecting and sprinkler systems 2/18/1937

  6. Replace hand operated life boat equipment and swinging boat davits with mechanical operated equipment, authorized 1/3/1938

  7. Installation of mechanical strokers, and ash/coal handling equipment authorized 3/31/1939, estimate cost $30,030, the fund were advanced to the Ann Arbor Boat Company for said work.

  8. Updated in 1962, including conversion from coal fired boilers to oil as well as raising her spar deck to accommodate taller freight cars. The Wabash now sported the Detroit Toledo & Ironton Compass Herald of her new owner on her streamline stack.

  9. In 1963 renamed City of Green Bay a major port in Wisconsin.

  10. On June 13, 1974, the Ann Arbor Railroad car ferry City of Green Bay was towed from Frankfort Harbor as dozens of onlookers sadly witnessed the first leg of her final voyage. Originally built as the SS Wabash, she carried an estimated million rail cars across Lake Michigan in her 45 years of service to the Ann Arbor Railroad
