July 11, 1968, the football wye track at Milan has been permanently retired and the Ann Arbor switch leading to it, has been spiked for the main line track. Norfolk & Western Railroad later sold the right of way property to the City of Milan.

July 16, 1968 Michigan's Manistique & Lake Superior Railroad, nicknamed "The Haywire", is abandoned

July 17, 1968, Pursuant to ICC Finance Docket No. 24610, the ICC released a certificate and order permitting abandonment by Manistique and Lake Superior Railroad Company of its entire line. M&LS then issued embargo order No. 1, dated July 17, 1968, and embargoed all traffic except cars enroute.

July 18, 1968 The Ann Arbor Railroad ends carferry service between Frankfort and Manistique.
