Planning A Layout For The Combine

Background

For the past two years, we've had the opportunity to have the Concord Model Railroad Club exhibit their frieght yard modules in the combine as part of the Lowell Folk Festival. Our goal this year is to work with the CMRC, and have a layout built that can be permanently displayed in Lowell. Several track plans are presented below, each followed by some comments. Comments from others are welcome, please send them to the webmaster.

Constraints

There are sveral serious design constraints. The layout is being installed against the wall in the B&M combine, and can be no larger than 4x12 feet. It is desired to have at least two, if not three trains run automatically. Turnouts should be within 3 feet of the front, or left hand side. The layout should be designed for mostly continous running, but allow for some switching.
