We are about to board Amtrak's "Empire Builder" from Winona, MN, to Seattle, WA. We will spend 2 nights and 1 day on the trip and cover 1900 miles.

MP 308 (milepost from Chicago): All aboard at Winona, MN, 11/12/03!

MP 940: The Superliner lounge offers better viewing, though there isn't a lot to see on the 2nd day of the trip.

MP 935: Service stop at Minot, ND, 11/13/03. Service stops are 20-30 minutes long to allow fueling locomotives, loading food items, and trash removal.

MP 2085: East slope of Cascades near Winton, WA, 11/14/03.

MP 2109: Meeting a freight train at the Scenic siding, 11/14/03!   The freight was waiting for us to clear the single tracked tunnel.

MP 2115: Crossing a tressle over one of many creeks between New Cascade Tunnel and Skykomish. WA.
