Eagle Nest Derailment June 2001

On June 6, 2001, around 23:00hrs,  26 car loads of autos (approx. 210 in all) derailed as a result of a broken spring bolster. The train was the V MCILAC8 04. The accident happened around MP 407.5, main 1 at Eagle Nest, AZ. Both mains were fouled.  Looking east, you see the second pile of wreckage, which is easily the largest. This was a massive wreck by all accounts. Luckily no one was injured, and none of the locomotives derailed.
