Site A: This area affords
views to the east and west. Looking east is best. A long downhill slope
out of Daggett with a sweeping curve give good views of westbound trains.
Wide open area allows for plenty of notice of approaching trains. Most
E + W trains are running around 40 to 50 mph. Follow National Trails Hwy
from Daggett to get here. This road is just south of the tracks in Daggett.

Site B: UP's mainline
from SLC and Las Vegas, joins BNSF here. Approaching from the north the
tracks curve sharply into the east and west mains of BNSF. A long siding
gives trains a place to merge if traffic is heavy, otherwise they join
right into the main. UP brings roughly 20 trains per 24 hr period. My experience
has been that this occurs mostly at night. Lighting is good throughout
the day and approaching trains can be seen for 2-3 miles. Train speed here
at the turnout is relatively slow, probably 15 mph.

Site C: Yermo is a UP
crew change point. There is also a sizable yard here with many trains in
it. The yard isn't very accessible beyond a grade crossing at the east
end. So I don't recommend the yard very much, but the area to the east
of Yermo consists of double track main that UP likes to park trains on.
With a large yard at yermo, I haven't quite figured out why they do this,
but I have seen as many as 4 lined up at once. Afternoon lighting is best
as almost all parked trains are westbound, so you'll need to shoot east.
A paved road follows tracks for miles so access is excellent.

Site D: This area is much
like Site A with one difference. Speed! Most trains are at the maximum
of 79 mph this far out. Long, flat, and straight track gives this area
its top speeds. Nothing like a five engine set whizzing by at 80! BE
AWARE!! The approaching trains will
look like they are going pretty slow, but don't be fooled, they are movin!
Stay clear of tracks as they get close, and be ready for the dust storm
they'll be towing behind.
