The conductor uses his hand to shield his eyes from the setting sun, which was nearly below the horizon and therefore right in front of this train. Hence the really harsh shadows on the ground. The state capital can be seen clearly in the background.

Slideshow Narration

   

    This was the final train for the day. I was getting tired and though I wanted to wait for the evening to come and see what I could get in the yard, I decided instead to give up for the evening and head back to my brothers house, base camp for this trip. Tomorrow was the Evanston Sub, Ogden to Echo Cyn was the planned stretch.
