Welcome to the

Bristol S Gauge Railroaders Home Page!

The Bristol S Gauge Railroaders are dedicated to S scale (1/64 scale) model railroading. Formed in 1948, we believe we are the longest running S scale club in America!

Members are interested in most branches of S scale, including, but not limited to, Scale, Narrow Gauge (Sn3 and Sn2), Hi-Rail, and American Flyer operating and collecting. Our major goals are to learn from each other and have fun doing it.

Our largest club meeting to date was held at Doug Peck's house on May 31st. We had 30 attendees. No doubt this might have been due to the offering by Doug to visit his train warehouse after the meeting. Our club meeting was briefly interrupted by a sudden rain shower, heavy enough to cause people to scramble back into the house for a bit. As usual in New England, you wait 5 minutes and the weather changes. Sure enough that happened and the meeting resumed once again outside in the sun. The meeting was originally scheduled for May 23rd but conflicted with the official long Memorial Day weekend that occurred early this year and so got re-scheduled.

For those who were unable to attend, you missed a chance to see and purchase some new Boston and Albany box cars that Dan Lundy was offering the club. The tuscan brown cars have white lettering and four different numbers. For more information contact Dan Lundy at Capistrano Backshops, 978-297-3135 or capistranobackshops@wildblue.net.

Al Coughlin is finishing work on the next Bristoliner newsletter. As always, please send your interesting train news and articles to Al for consideration in the next newsletter. Small photos related to articles may be possible so send them as well. Al can be reached at acough2001@yahoo.com.

For those of you who missed the Fourth Annual Flying Yankee Celebration (formerly known as the Flying Yankee Gala) on April 3rd; it was a really enjoyable evening. You'll want to plan to go to this annual event next year. We had a total of 23 Bristol club members in attendance, which was almost a third of the total attendees. Conversations were lively as we bid with other railroad buddies during the two silent auctions. The Flying Yankee group were very grateful for our attendance and participation. They made the following comment at their website.

"Thanks to the Bristol ‘S’ Gauge Club, who brought 23 people to the event and were very active in the auctions. Thanks to Tommy Robichaud for helping to organize the group. The Bristol ‘S’ Gauge Club is truly one of the strongest supporters of the restoration."

The event did turn out very well. The food was excellent and the portions very generous. The Mirage Band delighted the audience, playing during the cocktail hour and providing a wonderful assortment of dance numbers after the live auction.

Several Bristol Club members won train rides, Celtics tickets and railroad memorabilia thru participation in both the silent and live auctions. There were two rounds of silent auctions, one during the cocktail hour and another just as dinner was nearing completion. After dessert, the live auction was held. The Bristol Club donated a large 16 X 20 image of the Flying Yankee, that was professionally mounted in a dark frame. It was included in the live auction and we were very pleased to see that it went for $150.

Please check the website for the Flying Yankee at http://www.flyingyankee.com/ for further details and see who won the raffle for two Seats for Life on the Flying Yankee.
