Oshkosh Drawbridge April 2013

Kite aerial view of the 1899 Chicago and Northwestern center pivot swing bridge.
The approach trusses were replaced by the low girder spans last year.
Sometime in the Spring of 2013, the center span should get replaced.

.

The new bascule hinged span is on temporary pilings. Ready for barges to be placed underneath to float it into place.
I presume the left end has the hinge. The angle of the diagonal beams is closer to 45 degrees on that end,
and that would allow for a more vertical lift to clear the channel?
I have no idea if there will be a counterweight to balance this.

And is that a control house or machinery house? The existing bridge is remote controlled from Chicago? The new bridge is ? . . . . the same?

Trains don't wait for my camera to get focused.
I don't remember much horn blowing nearby to get some notice that a train is coming.
And they are going maybe 20 mph?

.

The train crossing over.

.

My letters by the new foundations probably don't correlate to anything in the real plans, but it helps to describe places.
The new center span may be hinged on C, and the tip will reach to B.
When the old foundations are removed, the channel will be wider.

More steel is being assembled on the north shore,
but I can't recognize what part of the bridge it will be.

Another aerial view.
