Iola Caboose Tent

Iola Caboose Tent

At the last minute, we decided to go to the Iola city-wide garage sales.
As we passed near the historic village block, I saw something different, and turned on the little dash camera.
We didn't stop to investigate further.

.

The last time I was near here was 2006 and it looked like this:

.

The caboose used to be at a private residence near Waupaca, in the last century.

Here's some news about the plastic construction tent from their website Iola Historical Society
and i quote
'There are several projects presently underway for which completion is projected by the time we move into the 2016 visitor season.
The most visible of these is the refurbishment of the caboose that sets on the tracks adjacent to the depot,
a project that Charles Wasrud has taken under wing, having enveloped it with a 'winter work' structure to ward off inclement weather.'

At one garage sale at an antique barn, there was a clay historic Iola Village for sale

.

And on the way out of Iola, we passed through Scandinavia.
The Green Bay and Western used to run through here, and now its the Tomorrow River State Trail.

I have a few old slides showing the railroad low-clearance girder bridge, and the rails, the year they were ripped out;
but I won't take the time this summer to search for them. I don't have GBW train pictures at this location.

And i wonder if there's news about the trail bridge proposed for Amherst,
because the RR bridge was still in use (on a switch lead for a local industry) and not available for a snowmobile trail.
There was a trail bridge project planned a few years ago to get over old US 10 to avoid a mile detour,
but the website says its not built yet.

But I digress; that's enough news for this page.
