Dick Kloes
opened the meeting and Jeff Young gave the treasurers report.Dave Smukowski and "Mac" Mc Grath gave a report on some of the plans for 2000 Fall S Fest. An example of what the car will look like was shown to the cars. The final count on this special car (unique number) will be 75. Various ideas were discussed, from hotel accommodations, swap meet table arrangement, to the banquet and corporate sponsors.
Jeff Madden informed the members about the Racing Champions die cast cars, which are S gauge and available in many chain stores. If you like the fabulous fifties, there are finally a lot of S gauge cars available.
Art Doty gave a report on various model railroad activities and other events taking place in the region. There was a full slate of shows to keep a person busy for the entire Summer. Trainfest at the State Fair Park in West Allis, will be held November 13th and 14th. The State-Line club is planning a bus for S Fest transportation which will be leaving from Rockford to St. Louis. A form and information on this trip are included in this newsletter.
Ron Schlicht brought up the S Fest patch contest. Some of the other duties were spelled out and a few club members have volunteered for various activities. Roy Meissner will be handling the model contest. We have one volunteer for the raffle, more are needed. The registration table is always an area where we need a lot of help.
street. We will be in the 4-H building. This will be more expensive than the facility that we had. We are hoping that the surroundings will be better. With the right amount of promotion and the new facility, we have an opportunity to improve our swap meet. Table fees will have to be slightly higher and we will have to increase the entrance fee to $2.00. Not only is the hall fee higher, but there is a table fee, chair fee and an outlet fee. We will eliminate the early entrance charge. The meet will be advertised on the outside marquis, and with the proper promotion, the meet could grow. We will give this a whirl. We will still need help at the meets. Our swap was starting to grow and it turned into "more" of an all pause show. The fact that we are only moving across the street, we should not be losing any of our clientele. There is plenty of room for expansion at this facility and hopefully this will be a success. A lengthy discussion followed on this subject, but the membership approved proceeding with this proposal. It will now be called a Model Railroad Trade Show. This might also invite individuals who deal in railroad memorabilia and other train related items.
