Meeting Reports
Dave Smukowski opened the general business meeting. Dave thanked all of the members that helped out at the Waukesha Winter Festival. We were set up in the Waukesha Gandydancers model railroad club. There were other club layouts HO, Lionel and N gauge. Dave needed volunteers for the Serb Hall layout setup since he would not be able to attend the meet. Ron Schlicht volunteered to take the layout there. Dave also gave a brief report on the Green Bay Title model railroad show. We have to pay a fee for the tables for the layout. A motion was made and passed to pay a $30.00 fee for this show. We have received a couple other requests for our layout to be present at various shows. There are conflicts with some of the dates and it is impossible to find enough volunteers to go to all of these shows. (Editors comment: Dave has been taking the layout to many shows and some of our members have helped out at some of these events. With the gasoline prices going up, not to mention that some of the shows require an over night stay, taking our S gauge show on the road is somewhat of an expensive proposition. It always sounds like a great idea to promote our club and S gauge, but those of us that have volunteered for these events pay the freight. We are not complaining but could use a little more effort from all members to act as spokesmen for the Badgerland S Gaugers. This does not necessarily mean attending all events.)
A motion was made and passed to purchase some additional straight track and a lit bumper for the small layout.
A motion was made and passed to purchase more of the small BSG patch replica stickers that we give out to children at the model railroad shows. Rich Eveleth has been taking care of this project and donated one batch of them.
Dave also gave a brief synopsis of the meeting presided over by Moe Berk that took place during the SLSG Fall S Fest.
There was a brief discussion of the plans for a 2008 Fall S Fest car. One proposal has been made but further research needs to done. It is also important that we know what the two other clubs will be producing for the next two Fall S Fests. We would not want to have three or four consecutive years with the same type of car. We also need to have a handle on the final costs of producing the cars and keeping them moderately priced.
For those of you who are interested in Plasticville, Dave passed around some information on sources for collectors. There are individuals that sell mint condition items and some those parts that you are missing and will never find at a swap meet.
Join the fastest growing organization dedicated to collecting plastic village buildings. You can visit the web page at http://www.plasticvilleusa.org or send an email request for an application.
You may send your $8 dues to:

Jeff Young mentioned that if you have any worthwhile items that we can use for door prizes at the swap they would be greatly appreciated. A couple of the hobby shops have been donating many items for our meets over the last few years and we don’t want to wear out our welcome. Items do not have to be S gauge items Scenery items; prints, books etc. are acceptable. No junk please. He also gave a brief swap meet report.
Chic Hartert gave a report on the model railroad show that will be taking place in Oconto, WI June 10th & 11th. Dave Smukowski will be taking the small layout to this show. Chic who is a SN3 enthusiast, and Ron Fadale are starting an S scale layout, which will be used for public shows.
Jeff Madden gave a brief report on some of the NASG events coming up. He also passed around some flyers on some of the new ready to run products that are about to be released.
Gary Children along with Dick Kloes updated the Badgerland model railroading Z to G car display. Dave Smukowski is making a carrying case for it.
Rick Wade gave a report on the progress with our website. Some of the major software issues are still being worked out. Doug Stoll will be assisting Rick with the project. We may have to purchase some additional software to get the site working properly. If you have visited the site lately it has been updated with some current events.
Ron Schlicht has been selling various club items at our swap meets for years. Our members have donated some of the items to the club. One of our members donated some Classic Toy Train magazines. If you have a stack of back issue magazines that you wish to get rid of that are related to S gauge get them to Ron Schlicht. CTT’s, S Gaugian’s, S Gauge Heralds and NASG Dispatch are sellable items. (CTT’s are sold for $1.00 ea. and I sold out.) At our last swap meet I sold over $37.00 of miscellaneous club items, over half of which was magazines. (No I didn’t pocket the proceeds.) Every little bit helps finance The Badgerland S Gaugers. No Model Railroaders please. Everyone has them and they are not worth herniating myself over.
Ron also went over some of the various items that will be required for the Mad-City show. There are a lot of new items that will be required to bring our displays up to the levels that we wish to achieve and maintain.
We will no longer have the BSG booth that was provided by Jim Sanborn. Jim will no longer be participating in BSG events. In the short time that he was involved in our club activities he made many valuable suggestions. What we previously refer to as the BSG information booth was a top-notch display and added a level of professional that we did not have in the past. His contributions will be missed.
Ron also gave a brief report on the upcoming MSOE TrainTime 06. We will have the children modular layout at this event. Remember it is a free show support it with your attendance, it may help to make it grow. The engineering students at the school put on this show.
Ron also reported on the status of the leftover 2004 Fall S Fest cars inventory. Some discount pricing was established for 4-car sets. See the for sale column.
Art Doty gave a brief report on the SLSG past Fall S Fest. He also gave the usual Art Doty calendar of events for 2006. He passed out the 2006 Illinois Railway Museum calendars
"Editors Comments"
The January general meeting of the Badgerland S Gaugers meeting was held at the Lionel Model Railroad Club. For those of you who never been to this facility you missed an opportunity to see what a hard working bunch of model railroaders can accomplish. After spending many, many years in the basement of one building and constructing a beautiful layout they were forced to move. Then after many more years in the basement of a church and constructing another fabulous operation, once again they were forced to depart. This time they purchased their own facility in a strip mall and are building a model railroad system and clubhouse that will end up being one of the finest in the entire country. The track work is nearing completion and the scenery is starting. We want to thank Gil Bruck, BSG and Lionel club member, who made the arrangements for this meeting. We also want to thank Lionel club members Mike Hilbert, Dave Mudge, Bob Laufenberg and Roman Berdes our hosts, for opening up the clubhouse, running choo-choos and answering all of our questions. All of the model railroad organizations around the country would love to have a facility like the Lionel Club of Milwaukee. We also would like to thank them for offering a number of their promotional items at a club discount. I for one took advantage of this gesture.

BSG Tips Column.
I’ve been too busy with activities, other than model railroading lately, so I have nothing to report on the subject of tips. Plus I am running out of ideas. I’m hoping that I can plagiarize some articles from other club’s newsletters.

New Product Review
Not much to report. I recently purchased another Mikes Train House product; this one was the #2 Row House. I will be using it as a farmhouse on the children’s layout. This is really a nice small structure that will fit in just great on an S gauge layout. A few MTH buildings that are in their catalog are actually closer to S than O.
If you purchase any new items currently on the market, please notify your editor as to how you feel about the products quality, appeal and performance. Thank You.

If any of our members would like to receive the newsletter via email please contact Ron Schlicht via email.
I have had a lot of positive feedback from some of the members to whom I email the newsletters.
No. 1 They don’t lose or misplace their newsletters.
No.2 They are easier to file, whether it is in a folder or the trash, but not in a metal filing cabinet.
No.3 Their email is a reminder of the meeting, unless they deleted it.
No. 4 For all of you who want that warm and fuzzy feeling, this media is environmentally friendly. You can now hug the tree that we would have cut down.
(I realize that for many, email is not a good means, for a multitude of reasons.)
