Timeline
Toronto, Grey and Bruce:
Toronto to Wingham, Walkerton, Owen Sound. Via Bolton, Orangeville.
1871: Opened.
1883: Bought by Canadian Pacific.
1907: Horseshoe wreck, killing 7 injuring 114.
1933: Abandoned Melville-Bolton.
1997: Abandoned Orangeville-Owen Sound.
Hamilton and Northwestern:
Hamilton to Collingwood. Via Burlington, Georgetown, Beeton.
1878: Opened
1879: Merged with The Northern Railway forming Northern and Northwestern Railway.
1887: N&NW bought by Grand Trunk Railway.
1923: GTR bought by Canadian National (Renamed CN Beeton Sub).
1975: Abandoned Georgetown to Cheltenham.
1984: Abandoned Cheltenham to Tottenham.
Line is now operated as the Caledon Trailway. Part of the Trans-Canada Trail.
Credit Valley Railway:
Toronto to Orangeville. Via Brampton. Branch from Cataract to Elora.
1879: Opened.
1883: Bought by Canadian Pacific (Renamed CP Owen Sound Sub)
1884: Abandoned between Melville and Orangeville. Line connected to TG&B line at Melville.
1970: Last passenger train.
1988: Cataract-Elora Branch abandoned. Now Cataract-Elora Trailway.
2000: Bought by Town of Orangeville. Renamed Orangeville-Brampton Railway.
Canadian Pacific MacTier (Muskoka) Sub:
Toronto-MacTier (and on to Sudbury). Branches north off TG&B line at Bolton.
1908: Opened.
Currently operating as the CP main line between Toronto and Northern Ontario and Western Canada.
