Mud slide on BCRail
at Mile Board 152.3
July 15, 1999, Near Lillooet, BC, from BCRail website - BCRail work crews
re-opened the mainline at 21:30 on July 15th. The first train passed the slide early this
morning. At this time,
cleanup work is proceeding and train service is being re-etablished. Normal service is
expected within 48 hours.
A land and mud slide eight kilometres south of Lillooet has cut BC Rail's main line
between Lillooet and the lower mainland. Torrential rains caused the slide in the Seton
Lake area which was reported just before 9:00am on July 14th.
BC Rail crews were moved north from Squamish and south from Lillooet to clear the
debris, repair the track and re-open the line. A second slide which occurred last night
has delayed this work.

These slides have caused delays in some of BC Rail's southbound freight service between
North Vancouver and points north of Lillooet as well as delaying northbound empty cars.
Arrangements are being made with Canadian National to re-route some traffic north and
southbound until the track is cleared. It's expected that work will be completed by the
afternoon of July 16th.
