Well folks, I just finished the scripts that will link my roster database with our
photo database. The pages for the Motive Power Archives are now created using these
scripts.
I had to re-write the program I created a few months ago because they didn't take into
account any photo we had that I couldn't associate with a builder's number. My original
plan was to use the builder's number as a means of tracking the history of any given unit,
but like I said; that was a major flaw.
After a great deal of thought, and a lot of trial and error, I finally settled on a
scheme that with allow us to publish all files in our database; even if I can't correlate
it to a serial number. The next step is to associate the names of the photos with the
numbers in the rosters; no small task, but made much easier now that the rosters are
organized.
I also have a great deal of working verifying the data that is already there. I noticed
a few irregularities just working on the files, Gods knows what would turn up if I prodded
a little deeper!!
So what else am I working on besides the rosters, you ask???
Well, I'm in the process of establishing another Web design firm, but this time I am
going-it-alone. Over the last few months I have been fine-tuning an idea for a very unique
design company, and I have been getting a great deal of positive feedback on the concept.
I won't bore you with the details, but the launch date should be late spring. I'll keep
you posted for those (very, very) few interested in my personal life.
And oh, BTW
. Mr. Cameron, if you're in the listening audience, I haven't
forgotten, just flying off on one of my tangents
again!!
Take care,
Rob.
