Power outside roundhouse:
Streamlined 4-6-4 Royal Hudson *#2825; Alco F-1A #4007; GP-9 #8514; 0-8-0 yard engines #6925 and #6933.

Locomotives inside 26 stall roundhouse:
4-6-0 #1095; 2-8-2 #5140; light 4-6-2 #2207; 2-8-2s #5181 and #5166; modern light 4-6-2 #1265; light 4-6-2s #2230 and #2539; 4-6-0s #837 and #870.

Back at station:
MLW/Alcos 4000series--4000series both A-units freight from Toronto. Alco F-1A #4004; MLW/Alco F-2A #4092 freight from Toronto or from North, total 59 cars; 4-6-4 Hudson *#2810; streamlined 4-6-4 Royal Hudson *#2855 with 56 car eastbound freight; light 4-6-2 #2500 (ex-DAR) on freight arriving from Ottawa; MLW/Alco S-3 #6552 on freight from Prescott; 4-6-0 #1056 arriving on freight; 4-6-0 #437 arriving on freight from east; light 4-6-2 #2527 arriving on freight from east; 4-6-4 Hudson *#2815 arriving on freight from east with 58 cars, including TOFCs; semi-streamlined heavy 4-6-2 *#2457 on freight arriving from east with 51 cars; modern light 4-6-2 #1264 arriving on freight from east.

Modern light 4-6-2 #1269 on passenger from Brockville for Ottawa, CP/CN pool train with 1 CN baggage, 2 CP streamlined 2200 class coaches, 3 CP parlor cars, one part buffet-CN dining car, total 7 cars in consist. A few cars off "Maple Leaf" from Toronto--a CN/CP pool train runs to CP Windsor Station, Montreal. This train originates at Chicago. Speaking of CP 4-6-2 #1269 Brockville-Ottawa, 2-8-2 #5181 was added in front of #1269--doubleheader out of town.

Alco F-A1 #4001 and MLW/Alco #8461 on freight arriving from Toronto; 4-6-4 Hudson *#2805 on through freight to Montreal with 45 cars, including 14 piggybacks; semi-streamlined heavy 4-6-2 *#2462 on freight from Montreal with 56 cars; light 4-6-2 #2206 on freight arriving from east; freight from east--power unknown; 2-8-2 5100 class on eastbound freight, number unknown.

CPR Smiths Falls, Ont. Early Hours of Morning May 29, 1956.

0020:
Train #33 from Ottawa for Toronto CP-CN pool mixture CP-CN consist, CP semi-streamlined heavy 4-6-2 *#2466 with 10 cars. Train #33 "Ottawa Express", 1 CN express, 1 CP streamlined postal-express, 1 CP streamlined express, 1 CP streamlined baggage, 2 CP streamlined coaches (2100 class and 2200 class), 2 CP sleepers, 2 CN sleepers. This particular overnight travels via Peterboro.

0120:
Train #23 from Ottawa for Toronto with CP Semi-streamlined heavy 4-6-2 *#2469. In consist: CP streamlined express, CP streamlined baggage, 1 CP streamlined 2200 class coach, 3 CP sleepers, 1 CN sleeper--total 7 cars. This train travels via Tichborne to Toronto; freight: light modern 4-6-2 #1265 with 34 cars; 4-6-4 Hudson *#2818 on freight from Toronto with 58 cars.

0135:
First section train #21 "Chicago Express" from Montreal enroute Toronto-Chicago, CP/CN pool Montreal -Toronto. On the power end CP F-7As #1409 and #1401 with total of 16 cars (all CP); second section train #21 from Montreal with MLW/Alco's RS-10s #8464 and #8465 with 1 CP baggage and 6 CP sleepers. The second section of train #21 was consolidated with Ottawa-Toronto overnight train #23 at Smith Falls--*#2469 left with 14 cars behind her.

Freight arriving from North or Toronto MLW/Alco RS-3 #8457 and Alco FA-1 #4401; semi-streamlined heavy 4-6-2 #2406 freight northbound or to Toronto.

0435:
Train #22 "Overseas Express" from Chicago-Toronto for Montreal: On the power end F-7As #1417 and #1420 with total of 17 cars, as a surprise semi-streamlined heavy 4-6-2 *#2457 coupled onto the front of diesels for Montreal; train #22 was running in two sections on the Toronto-Montreal sector, overnight Toronto-Ottawa passenger trains #24 and #34 would be arriving later; first #22 eastbound to Montreal which I took, was interesting--a combination of steam & diesel power.

Prior to our train departing for east, observed following power: 2-8-2 #5192; Alco S-2 #7011 switcher; Alco FA-1 #4002 with MLW/Alco 4400 series B-unit; Alco S-2 #7064 switcher; Alco FA-1 #4001 and MLW/Alco RS-3 #8461.

Enroute--west of Montreal at St. Annes:
Semi-streamlined heavy 4-6-2 *#2459; CN 4-8-4 #6170; streamlined 4-6-4 Royal Hudson *#2825 on 70 car freight which was westbound.

At Dorval:
Light 4-6-2 #2218, this locomotive used to run on Montreal-Boston passenger service in North Station Boston in pool with Boston & Maine steam in and out of Montreal.
