CAROLINAS ASSOCIATION FOR PASSENGER TRAINS
CHARLOTTE, N.C., MEETING
FEBRUARY 4, 2006

CAPT's February meeting will be in Charlotte, N.C., and will include the opportunity to ride Charlotte Trolley, just before its expected year-long suspension of service, due to the South Corridor light rail project construction. There will also be time to look at the light rail construction under way between Center City and I-485. Service is now slated to begin the Fall of 2007.

For those arriving via Amtrak's Piedmont, you will be met at the train station upon arrival. Arrangements have been made for meeting space at the Greystone Restaurant. It's located at 3039 South Blvd., directly across the street from 3030 South. 3030 South is a new transit-friendly development near the site of the planned New Bern South Corridor Light Rail station. Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. The CAPT Board will meet from 12:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., following lunch.

For those who are interested, a tour will be provided of the construction along the South Corridor, from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., by local CAPT members. For those interested in riding Charlotte Trolley, we will arrive at South End station in time to ride the 4 p.m. departure to 9th Street. The two-way fare is $2. We'll return to South End at 4:45 p.m. We'll provide transportation for those who need to get back to the Amtrak station, from South End station, following the arrival of the 4:45 p.m. southbound. On the way back to the Amtrak station, we will pass along the site of the planned Multi-Modal Transportation Center on West Trade Street.
