CAPT Board Meeting

The Carolinas Association for Passenger Trains will meet in Greensboro at the J. Douglas Galyon Depot, 236 E. Washington Street, on April 12, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. Dr. Meredith Richards of Charlottesville, Virginia, will make a presentation at that time on how Virginia has improved passenger rail service from Washington along the US 29 corridor down to Lynchburg. It is has been suggested that this service might be extended to Danville and Greensboro along the US 29 corridor to connect to the proposed SouthEast High Speed Rail (SEHSR) line in Greensboro to provide improved service to Spartanburg, Greenville and western South Carolina. Virginia has also been planning an extension of the service to Roanoke.

The 1:00 P.M. presentation will be held in the west wing of the Depot. Because of inconvenient train schedules, it is expected that most will drive to this meeting, so parking will be a concern. There is a large circle at the west wing where entrance can be made through double doors where a CAPT sign will be placed. Parking is provided near the west wing at meters that do not operate on Saturday. Some parking is also provided on the east side of the Depot at (non-operating) meters.

The Board Meeting will follow the presentation in the Board Room near the front of the Depot. [This well-appointed room will seat a dozen around the Board Table with additional seating around the wall. Whether to hold the Board Meeting in this room can depend on the number expected to attend the Board Meeting.}

A recommended, convenient eating place is Natty Greene's at 345 South Elm Street. This place's menu has a wide range of choices that can be viewed at www.nattygreenes.com/menu. Cafe Europa at 200 N. Davie Street will be open at 11:30 Saturday morning as an alternate lunch site.

The Carolina Model Railroad in the former REA building nearby at 234B East Washington Street will be open Saturday morning for early arrivers. Also, some early arrivers may be interested in the Greensboro Historical Museum at 130 Summit Avenue which will be open Saturday morning.
