Central Operating Lines in Print!
Check out the March 2008 issue of Classic Toy Trains Magazine, pages 58 through 62. You will recognize the photos with familiar places and people. The Club layout is covered Big Time. Thanks to Alex and Fred Gillam for putting the story together and working with the magazine folks to get the article published. They worked hard to make this happen, giving COL worldwide recognition from train enthusiasts everywhere. And thanks to all of the COL members who worked with Alex since their efforts helped out significantly. Alex and Fred, former members of COL, have just moved to the Carolinas. The club has obtained copies of this issue for members who want a copy @ $5 ea. See Phil Gravenhorst if you haven’t already signed up for a copy.
New Members for COL-Signs of the Times
For the January and February Open Houses, we used new signs posted at various locations near the club to let folks know about the open house, directing them to the club location. The January open house weekend was a great success bringing additional revenue. More folks came as a result of the signs. Best of all, the signs brought us four new members. Please join me in welcoming to a great model railroading experience, Joseph Ferraro and junior member, Ed Johnson and junior member, James Power and Joseph Savage. And thanks to Pete Palma for his initiative to obtain the signs for the club. We also welcome Steve Wischer who rejoined COL. Steve was much involved with COL in the past and we welcome his initiative to join us once again.
COL Chance Books.
Thanks to the 23 members who purchased Chance books for the 2007 club raffle. And special thanks to John McInerney who “beat the bushes”, selling an amazing 50 books outside the club. Almost 100 books were sold, contributing almost $500 to this fund raiser. The 2008 raffle will be an important fundraiser for the club and we hope to better the response from all club members.

Predicting the Future?????
Just for laughs, let’s peer briefly into the future and try to imagine all of the toy trains that may come out of hiding in the next 50 years as the baby boomers’ collections surface at the COL swap meets of the future. A wise man (Louis Hertz?) observed in the past that each generation, when it reaches an age to have disposable income, begins to collect the toys that were available during their childhood. If there is truth in this idea, we may see a resurgence of interest in Lionel-Fundimensions and The Mighty Sound of Steam. So you might want to start picking up at the swap meet, those red and white boxes!!
Well that’s it for now! Happy Railroading to All,
