Changes in the Board of Directors
Larry Laskowski, our Secretary, has resigned his position, due to the fact that he is building a house in North Carolina, where he plans to spend about half of each year. Larry will remain a member of the COL and plans to spend the other half of the year hear on Long Island. Phil Gravenhorst has asked Mike Heindl to finish out Larry’s Secretarial term, which ends in December 2009, and Mike has accepted this position. John Thompson was also appointed to fill the spot on the Board of Directors, which Mike Heindl vacated.
Please Remove your Trains from the Layout ASAP
At
the March 2009 Business Meeting we voted to remove all trains from the layout,
with no exceptions. This was done to allow members to have full use of the
entire layout, including all sidings and yard areas. If your trains are
still on the layout, please remove them, as soon as possible. Trains
are not to be stored on the layout at any time or for any reason, Effective
Immediately. Now that the Open House season is over, plans are underway to
begin several Construction Project on the layout and your trains will not only
be in the way of the work crews, they also stand the chance of being
accidentally damaged by others who are working on the layout to improve
scenery and operation of our layout for the benefit of all of our club
members.
Welcome to our Newest Member, John Passadino
We would like to extend a warm COL welcome to our newest probationary members, John Passadino and his son Johnny (age 16, who has been interested in trains since he was 2 years old). They live in Sayville and John works for IBM. They came down at the last Open House and spoke to Mike Heindl, they returned the following Friday with their application & check and wasted no time becoming members. Please make them both feel at home and we wish they a long and productive membership in our club.
We
Are Returning to Friday Work Nights
Now
that the Open House season is behind us, we will be reinstating the Friday
Work Nights Policy. This means that Working on the Layout takes precedence
over running trains on Friday Nights, from 7pm until 10pm. Business Meetings
are the exception, as there will be no working on the layout on Business
Meeting Friday nights, which are normally held on the second Friday of each
month.
Swap
Meets, Open Houses and Club Events
The
next Swap Meet is April 19th. Swap Meets are held at the Farmingville Bingo
Hall from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Please come to help setup, teardown and run the
Swap Meet to help raise money for our club.
Our
next Open House will be at the end of October. Complete Open House and Swap
Meet schedules can be found on the flyers (at the club) or on the COL website
(the address of the website is on the top of this Newsletter).
As
usual, we are also planning a one-day trip to the TCA Train Show at the York
Fairgrounds in York, PA. We will be running a carpool (of several vehicles)
for this event. If you have never been to this show, it is the Biggest and the
Best Train Show on this planet, so you should plan on being there. Please see
Phil Gravenhorst for carpool details.
