La Plata 2012 Spring Railfan Event Day 2 4/3/2012

by Chris Guenzler

Donald and David decided to stay in La Plata today so at 7:30 AM just myself, Winston Walker and his daughter Christy headed east. We took US Highway 63 north to Route F, to Route V north to Missouri Highway 6 to Hurdland, where we took Route J north to Road 133 to Road 113, which took us to Route P and the first new bridge. The cut was in the shadows so we left it for later, heading west on Route P to Missouri Highway 11 to Missouri Highway 15 to the bridge over the BNSF mainline and parked the rental car.

Union Pacific 7800 West.

BNSF 5003 East. From here we back-tracked north to Route K and at the Baring grade crossing, saw a headlight coming.

BNSF 4699 West. We then went east on Route K to Route M which we took to Underpass Road to County Line Road, to Road 49 to the old bridge there. We arrived there just as an eastbound Union Pacific train was running through the cut under the old bridge.

BNSF 7297 West. The three of us returned to Route M to Route A to Route U, to Route A to Route W to the first left after County Road 404, and went north to the old bridge there just east of Wyaconda. Here we met some new friends from Cedar Rapids.
