Kingman Canyon and the west end of the BNSF Seligman Sub 1/3/2012 Part 1

by Chris Guenzler

We arose at the Motel 6 at Needles and after packing, went to McDonald's for breakfast where I had hot cakes and sausage then we drove to Kingman and passed six westbound BNSF trains. Upon arrival in Kingman, we made our way to the steam engine and caboose on display.

Santa Fe caboose 999520, built by the railroad in 1942 as 2122.

Santa Fe 4-8-4 3759 built by Baldwin in 1928.

The restored Santa Fe station in Kingman built in 1907. From here we drove into Kingman Canyon, stopping at the second trestle.

BNSF 735 West, a local, had CSX C40-8W 7653 in the power consist as it rolled though Kingman Canyon. I relocated to the sunny side after the morning mid-level clouds had dissipated.

Interesting rock formations abound in the canyon.

BNSF 5289 East, with KCS AC44CW 4621 in its consist, rolled through.

BNSF 7311 East was our next train.

BNSF 5260 West.

BNSF 5260 West continues to make its way through the canyon.

The local returns with BNSF 5374 leading. From here we drove to the third trestle in Kingman Canyon.

Back at the Santa Fe station in Kingman.

Santa Fe 4-8-4 3759. Do you notice anything different from the morning's photographs? We filled the car with petrol and chased a westbound BNSF train out of Kingman as we started to head back towards Needles.
