More encounters with Amtrak P42DC 42, Veterans Unit Part 2

by Chris Guenzler

After some time at home, I drove to the Santa Ana station, parked on the lower level of the parking structure then went across the pedestrian bridge to the Metrolink ticketing machine and bought a one-way ticket to Fullerton. I sat on a bench to wait for my train.

Metrolink 665 arrived and I boarded the bicycle car for the quick trip to Fullerton. Upon my arrival, there was an eastbound BNSF train waiting on a green signal and I managed to get up on the pedestrian bridge for a pair of pictures.

BNSF 6818 East begins to leave. I walked to the Track 4 platform for the end of the train.

BNSF 6818 East DPU departing.

BNSF 7278 West came into Fullerton next.

Pacific Surfliner 774 arrived and I boarded for the quick trip back to Santa Ana which enabled me to reach Select status on Amtrak Guest Rewards. It had been a slow year for my train riding but I did plenty of travelling. I detrained at Santa Ana then headed over to Chestnut Street for Pacific Surfliner 777.

The gates went down at this video camera crossing.

Pacific Surfliner 777 heads towards the Santa Ana station. I would return here tomorrow to catch Amtrak 42 on Pacific Surfliner 774.

12/02/2013 After working another day at my new job at Heninger Elementary School, I went home, had lunch and after checking the Internet, I drove north to Orange and parked in the north end of the Metrolink station parking lot. I walked over to the West Palm Avenue grade crossing and heard a horn to the south of a train coming my way.

Pacific Surfliner 774 with Amtrak 42 leading headed south to San Diego through Orange. From here I went to Stater Brothers to pick up some items needed at the house then came home, added this to my story and watched "NCIS" before having a turkey dinner then went to the Orange County Historical Society meeting in the evening.

12/03/2013 After working another day, I stopped at the store before coming home then watched an episode of "Kitchen Nightmares" before driving to CP Lincoln at 17th Street in Santa Ana to get a final shot of Amtrak 42 on the last train of its trip cycle. I set up and waited for Pacific Surfliner 579.

Pacific Surfliner 579 with Amtrak 42 trailing. I went home and completed this story.
