by Chris Guenzler

Now it would be time do somehing I had always wanted to do, photograph the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad climbing the 4 percent grade to Cumbres Summit and beyond. Today my dream came true. We will start with the Chama station.

The engine Cumbres & Toltec 487 is ready for its duties today.

It moved the train for boarding. We left Chama and headed to our first photo location at the Jukes Tree.

The train ran by the Jukes Tree. We took off after the train in chase mode.

Our next photo location was at the start of the Narrows.

Our next photo location was at the end of the Narrows.

Our next photo location was at Lobato.

Our next photo location was at the Labato Trestle.

Our next photo location was from Colorado Highway 17.

Our next photo location was below a private ranch grade crossing.

Our next photo location was at the lower New Mexico Highway 17 grade crossing.

Our next photo location was an "S" curve below the highway.

Our next photo location at another curve below the highway.

Our next photo location required a hike into Cresco to get these pictures.

Our next photo location the second grade crossing of Colorado Highway 17.

We drove to Cumbres Summit station and I took a hike to my next photo location.

Our next photo location was the train coming into Cumbres Pass station.

The train at rest at Cumbres Pass station. We drove to our final photo location of this chase.

At a grade crossing just below Colorado Highway 17 our final pictures of our fantastic chase of the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad. We headed to Antonio.

A unique cloud as we drove to Antonio the next stop of this trip.
