by Chris Guenzler

Upon arrival, we detrained.

The Monticello Wabash station. Everyone reboarded and were taken to the west yard just past the Norfolk Southern main line bridge, where we were required to detrain as train had to reverse to the grain elevator on exempt tracks. We all walked to the pre-determined location.

Reverse move twenty-two.

Photo runby twenty-eight. We walked back to where we had detrained and set up for our next set of photographs.

Photo runby twenty-nine.

Reverse move twenty-three.

Photo runby thirty.

Reverse move twenty-four.

Photo runby thirty-one.

Reverse move twenty-five.

Photo runby thirty-two.

Reverse move twenty-six.

Photo runby thirty-three.

Reverse move twenty-seven.

Photo runby thirty-four, after which Joshua gave us two options. Choice A was to go to the east end of the track then return to the museum for more photo runbys, while Choice B was to go straight back to the museum. We all chose the first option so reboarded and rode the entire line to the eastern limits of operation.

This was the bridge which we could not cross, thus could not travel any further east.

There was a wye just beyond the first tank car.

Reverse move twenty-eight. We reboarded and returned to West Heath Road for another photo runby.

The last photo runby, number thirty-five. With that complete and having to drive to Monee, I returned to the museum and departed. Special thanks to Joshua Scott and the entire staff of the Monticello Railway Museum for a fantastic charter experience with Southern Railway 401. I said goodbye to everyone and drove directly to the Country Inn and Suites for the night, arriving there in time to watch the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Washington Capitals 4-2 before calling it a night.
