St Regis to Missoula Pictures

Photos by Chris Guenzler

The Montana Daylight has passed through St Regis and has turned east still following the Clark Fork River. The former Milwaukee Road Bridge can be seen in the distance.

Our route will be following the old Milwaukee Road grade from St Regis to Garrison. Here it is visible across the Clark Fork River.

Remains of a derailment from years ago was next seen along the old Milwaukee Road grade.

We went into the siding at Superior for the BNSF 8844 West/

Our route and the Clark Fork River next enters Alberton Gorge.

The rear of the Montana Daylight passing an outcropping of rock.

I received a tour of the Bella Vista and rode the rear platform from east of the Alberton Gorge to De Smet. What an enjoyable ride it was. Here we take the turn at Nine Mile.

The Bella Vista's Dome.

The rear platform view of the Clark Fork River.

Near Schilling, our train took full advantage of the straight track.

Curving into De Smet.

The route over Evaro Hill joins ours. It amazed me that two days ago, you couldn't see the mountains we went through when we climbed that hill.
