2009 Old Threshers Reunion Part 2

by Chris Guenzler

Car 1945. This "Peter Witt" type car from Milan, Italy was built in 1927. I boarded this car for my trip around the Trolley Loop.

Our trolley passed the Car Barn.

Passing the Line Car.

These tracks join the loop from Car Barn.

The Log Village.

The Lake.

View of the Campers in the campground at this event.

Another view of the lake.

More views as we finish the loop. I stayed on back to where I boarded so I could get the complete loop. I detrained and then set up to catch the other trolleys coming into the station.

Chicago, Aurora & Elgin Railroad 320.

Waterloo, Cedar Falls & Northern Railway 381. This car was built in 1930 by Perley Thomas for Knoxville, Tennessee. It was the last streetcar to run in in public service in Iowa, in 1958, on the Waterloo - Cedar Falls branch of the WCF&N.

Rio de Janeiro 1718. This open-bench car was built in 1911 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and ran there until 1967. They definitely looked out of place in the cool rainy weather!

Rio de Janeiro 1779. This open-bench car was built in 1911 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and ran there until 1967. They definitely looked out of place in the cool rainy weather!

The next trolley approaching the station.

Chicago, Aurora & Elgin Railroad 320. This wooden interurban coach was built in 1914 by the Jewett Car Company. It ran between Chicago and its western suburbs until 1957. This finished up my coverage of this fantastic event here in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. I took US Highway 218 south to Iowa Highway 2 which I took west back to US 63 that took me back to La Plata.

La Plata Soybean Festival 9/05/2009

I parked the van out in front of the Silver Rails Event Center then went inside finding Kelly Marshall. She told me where Bob Cox was and I walked over there meeting Bob and Amy Cox and Missouri Representative Tom Shively. I decided then to get a hamburger and look around this small town Soy Bean Festival.

Views of the La Plata Soybean Festival. After that I headed back towards the Depot Inn & Suites but when I saw people out at the lookout point, I decided to make a stop and try to catch one more train. I introduced myself to all the guests who were amazed that I was there. Looking at the ATCS Monitor I knew we had a westbound heading our way and went out onto the deck to wait.

A BNSF westbound passing the Chris Guenzler Million Mile Lookout Point. I stopped by the Casey Gas Station for some Coca-Cola for the trip home starting tonight. Back in my room I worked on today's story.
