The Coast Starlight Detour down the former SP Valley Line 10/26/2008 Part 4

The Coast Starlight is on the approach to the Tehachapi Loop.





The front of our train is in Tunnel 9 and is starting around the Tehachapi Loop.





Tunnel 9 428 feet long which is the bottom of the Tehachapi Loop.





Walong Siding starts just after Tunnel 9.

California Highway 58 is seen climbing the north side of the canyon before the Coast Starlight starts through the "Tunnel District" of Tehachapi Pass.

The Coast Starlight is in the final miles of getting to the summit of Tehachapi Pass.

The train has taken the final curve in its upwards climb over Tehachapi Pass.





The CA 58 Business Route crosses over the tracks just west of Tehachapi.





Passing new windmills as we approach the town of Tehachapi and we got called into the Dining Car for our 2:30 PM Lunch/Dinner. I ordered the Baked Chicken which was excellent and enjoyed Chocolate Ice Cream for dessert.





The Coast Starlight crested Tehachapi Pass and started down the eastward face.
