The Aircraft Plant at Palmdale with Joshua Trees on the property.

The Palmdale Cutoff that I rode once from Los Angeles to Mojave via Colton on the PRS Mojave Limited, the first passenger train ever over that piece of railroad between West Colton and Palmdale.

A look down at the high desert after we had tripped a Metrolink Detector and had to stop and inspect the Coast Starlight.

A helicopter took off right next to the train as we climbed Vincent Grade before we took the siding. They first ran the inboard Metrolink train from Lancaster by us and we had to wait for the outbound train to Lancaster to go by before we proceeded down Soledad Canyon.

Our detour has come to an end as we reached Burbank Jct and we return to the normal Coast Starlight route. The train passed through Glendale and by both the Metrolink and Gold Line Shops before we reached Mission Tower and turned in towards LAUPT.

Two views of the Coast Starlight at LAUPT.

The rear of the Southwest Chief at LAUPT.

Private Car Louis Sockalexis BE Sleeper/Lounge PRR Frank Thomson 800110 was on the rear of the Southwest Chief. I learned after not seeing a Surfliner Train Set in LAUPT that Surfliner 583 had a rules violation in Oceanside and would not be into Los Angeles any time soon. That train turns into Surfliner 590. I called some people to get a ride home but had no luck. I talked with the Conductor on the Southwest Chief about the problem and he said "Hop aboard back in coach. Steve and I did that as I called my Mother who would drive to Fullerton to meet us. The Southwest Chief ran right on time and Steve and I got off at Fullerton and went over the bridge to where my mother was waiting. I drove Steve to his car at the Anaheim Station and then drove to the Santa Ana Station where my car was waiting. I drove home ending another fantastic Amtrak Adventure.
