The Wheeling and Lake Erie

The Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad

The Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad owns a run-down single-track line that runs through my home town of Bedford, Ohio.  This little track has always attracted me.  In the face of the big trains that run on Norfolk Southern's parallel Cleveland Line, W&LE runs little trains that carry scrap metal and other miscellaneous freight through scenic, old-time-flavored sites.  Here's some of my shots of this line.

On a dreary afternoon, W&LE engine 2706 returns westbound behind the old Bedford City Hall to get the second half of a train it pulled through there earlier in the day. Wheeling & Lake Erie SD40-3 4025 leads a small train waiting at Falls Junction in Glenwillow. The Wheeling & Lake Erie tracks running east (well, NS calls it east) from McCracken Rd. and under I-480.
Wheeling & Lake Erie SD40-3 4003 leads GP35 2653 behind Bedford Cemetary on its way back from Cleveland to Falls Junction one early spring evening. A Wheeling & Lake Erie train is passing Bedford Cemetary on its way back to Falls Junction one damp spring evening. An eastbound Wheeling & Lake Erie train parallels Solon Rd. on its way toward Falls Junction on a damp spring evening.
