Conrail 20 - Research Car
Amtrak Private Car # - 800
410

A prewar, lightweight 6 double bedroom-Buffet-Lounge car, Chicopee Falls, was built for the New York Central by Pullman Standard in 1940, serving on many fine New York Central trains until the late 1950's.  The car was redesignated a Parlor-Buffet-Lounge Car, No. 648, in 1958, the bedrooms providing first class parlor car seating.  Erroneously reported as scrapped it was converted by New York Central to a Dynamometer Research Car, No. X-23417, in April 1962 and was used in that capacity until acquired from Penn Central by Conrail on April 1, 1976.  The car is owned by Conrail but was not in service as of 1998.  By the end of its days, the car looked a bit shabby.
