27 - Coach Car
Amtrak Private Car # -
800458
Built by the
Budd Company in early 1947 as a 56-seat coach for the New York Central
Railroad, no 2949 was part of a large postwar order for new cars to create
the "Great Steel Fleet" of passenger trains. The car
served the New York Central for over 20 years, then Penn Central into
Amtrak era. Amtrak purchased the car for coach service, renumbering
it No. 5667. Conrail purchased this fine car from Amtrak for coach
seating on its special trains, extensively refurbishing the car. This car went to Norfolk
Southern and has been repainted. Remember to ask for my permission, Chip
Syme and/or Jeff
Lubchansky if you intend to
use these pictures elsewhere. |
