Conrail 4020 E8A

Built in 1951 for the Pennsylvania Railroad in LaGrange, IL and numbered 5809 and 4309. After use in passenger and freight roles for the PRR, the unit became Penn Central 4309.  In 1974 Amtrak acquired the unit and numbered it 496. Amtrak upgraded the E8A with new Head End Power (HEP).  Conrail purchased the E unit in 1984 and numbered it 4020.  This unit could be seen pulling the CR OCS (Office Car Special) just about anytime the train was on the road.  Norfolk Southern acquired the engine and numbered it 1000 for a short while before auctioning it to Bennett Levin of the Juniata Terminal who restored the unit to PRR 5809.
