5 - Observation Car
Amtrak Private Car # -
800463
Built in 1911 as
a Heavyweight Observation Car, Conrail 5 is the oldest car of the
fleet. It served as 'The Pocahontas' for the N&W Railroad.
Norfolk Southern acquired the car in the merger of N&W and Southern
and numbered it 7. Conrail purchased the car in June of 1988 and put
stripes and the name 'Boston' on its sides. Those stripes did not
last long as Conrail removed them in 1997 and numbered the car 5. Remember to ask for my permission and/or Jeff
Lubchansky if you intend to
use these pictures elsewhere. |
