All units in the CP 1000 series are 'Slug' or 'daughter' units. They were converted from SW8, SW9u, GP9u, SW900, SW1200 and SW1200RS units between 1991 and 1996. These units get power for their traction motors from 'Mother' units, while their own engines have been replaced with ballast, or left in place but with no functionality.
