A good day trackside!
I would have to give April 9th & July 6th these day's. The sun favoured most of the trains seen, the lighting was awesome and the locations were spectacular.
APRIL 9TH - 2005
229. Saturday April 9th, 2005
On the morning of April 9th, 2005 myself, and two other Marathon railfans, (Robert Collings & Tim Gobeil) decided to head to the Neys area to take in a nice eastbound morning rush. We left just after a westbound rolled through and we knew that we would catch that when we arrived.
The sun just came up before this train went through. Here we have CP 9644 & 9546 rolling over the Little Pic River at MP 81 on the Heron Bay sub. A few hours later, CP #274 with the CP 8655 & 8570 crossed over the trestle. The next train was only a half hour behind, this would be a heavy #202 with CP 9108 & CP 9574. CP #202 @ MP 81.5 CP #202 @ MP 81 CP #202 @ MP 79 We then headed back to the lookout when I noticed containers moving. Oh oh! We hurried down to the tracks to grab a shot of CP 9774 & CEFX 1032 pulling train #102. Next up, CP #322 a export grain train for Montreal, Quebec. This is at MP 80. Our final train, CP #794 with empty multilevels is the train we choose to chase back to Marathon. Today, CP 5969 & 9011 pulled 76 cars. Back in Marathon two westbounds went through and had a meet later took place with CP #115 & #108.
All in all, that was a good day of railfanning. ____________________________________________________________________________
July 6th was another excellent day for sunlight and trains. With the traffic pattern, it would be a good day to explore Marathon's nearby locations.
305. Wednesday July 6th, 2005
I woke up early hearing a lot of radio chatter. As it turned out, CP #105 had to setoff a unit which got scanned by the hotbox. Right behind CP #105 was CP #115. A few hours later I met up with Tim and we headed to MP 65 to catch CP #102 with the CP 9771 & 9103. CP #120 followed close behind with a rather interesting lash-up, a GETS AC4400CW, EMD SD9043AC, GMDD GP9U! It was then off to MP 59 to climb up high for CP #114 with two SD40-2's on the point. Back in Marathon, CP #108 rolled through followed by CP #435 and then CP #106. I then grabbed a shot of the Canac working the yard and this scale test car.
And to wrap things up, the last bit of light blinds the crew riding on CP 9524 w/t #107 And to wrap things up, the last bit of light blinds the crew riding on CP 9524 w/t #107
