North of Lake Superior, the CN operates its transcontinental mainline. CN's Ruel Subdivision beginning at Capreol (Sudbury) MP 0 runs to Hornepayne at MP 296.2. From here the Caramat Sub begins and runs to Armstrong at MP 243.8 connecting to the CN Kinghorn Sub at MP 101.1, Longlac. The route is part of the CN between Toronto and Vancouver. Traffic mainly consists of intermodal, but general merchandise mostly consisting of forest products runs on more than a half a dozen manifest trains. Unlike the CPR, this line has passenger service provided by Via Rail Canada.
